AMERICAN RED CROSS BOARD MEMBER ELECTED TO INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP POSITION

 
Geneva, Switzerland, November 29, 2007–American Red Cross Board Member, Steven E. Carr, has been elected to the Standing Commission, the committee that guides the work of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
 
Carr, a native of Idaho, has volunteered for the American Red Cross at the local, national, and international level for more than 20 years.  See full story.
 
“The Standing Commission has a birds-eye view of the needs of the world’s most vulnerable people,” said Carr. “I look forward to creating an international environment that facilitates the crucial emergency preparedness and response work that happens at the community level.”
 
Carr was elected to the Standing Commission at an international conference, which every four years brings together the world’s 186 national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, including the American Red Cross, and 194 governments that are party to the Geneva Conventions.
 
The committee, with members from Belize, Jordan, Italy, and Mali, in addition to Carr, seeks to ensure harmony and cooperation within the International Movement and to advance the interests of the International Movement as a whole.
 
Carr is a Founding Partner of Fuller and Carr Associates, President of Elite Construction Co., President of Carr Land and Title, Inc. and Former President of Idaho Title and Trust.  His term on the Standing Commission will last four years.
 
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the largest humanitarian network in the world with 97 million members and volunteers.
